Chip, Chip Hooray for Gluten-Free (Plus, a Giveaway!)

June 22, 2011 at 10:49 am 36 comments

One of the best things about holidays is having an excuse to celebrate at the office. From my first day in the workforce, I always looked forward to ‘food days,’ when everyone brought in snacks and swapped recipes for their famous cakes, casseroles, and crumbles.

When I started at NFCA, I quickly realized that ‘food days’ aren’t so easy among the gluten-free.  At the NFCA office, we default to gluten-free so everyone can participate in celebrations.  But at other offices, and parties in general, gluten eaters may be less welcoming to the idea.

Fortunately, one thing I’ve found to be universally pleasing among celiac and non-celiac crowds are gluten-free chips. Here’s why:

  • They’re portable. For party purposes, there’s nothing better than tossing a bag in your tote. If you’ve ever tried to stack cupcakes without messing up the icing, you know how valuable that can be.
  • They’re versatile. Depending on whether they’re packed with flavor or just dusted with salt, you can eat them right out of the bag, dunk them in a gluten-free dip, or crumble them on top of a salad.
  • They’re gluten-free, but not obviously so. They look like chips, they taste like chips, and they often are chips that just happen to be gluten-free. I’ve never heard someone say “This chip tastes gluten-free,” and few will be able to pass up a taste.

Now, when you bring a crowd-pleasing food, there is the risk of cross-contamination. People who can eat gluten may be happy to try your gluten-free chips and dip, but their hands also may be rife with gluten-y crumbs.

I would love to win those Baked Nut Chips! I plan on going to a rooftop party to watch the Macy’s Fireworks here in NYC. They would be a great gluten-free treat to bring to the party. Thanks!

I don’t have July 4th plans yet, but if I win these chips, that’s a start in the right direction for a gluten free holiday, correct?

Well we are Canadian, not American, but our July 1st weekend plans include a camping trip with friends. It can be difficult to find snack foods that everyone can enjoy without worrying about what my 9 year old can/can’t eat, so having some Baked Nut Chips would definitely be a great option for all.

We’ll be celebrating the 4th of July with friends, cooking out and enjoying the day! I’d love to be able to share the Baked Nut Chips because my friends and neighbors are are all fans of the Blue Diamond Nut Thin Crackers. It’s amazing how many people I’ve introduced to Blue Diamond since I’ve been gluten free and more and more of them now purchase Blue Diamond because their products taste so great!

Our 4th of July plans consist of a family barbecue, then going to the local high school to watch their firework show! These Baked Nut Chips would be perfect for either, especially as a snack for the show for the children with Celiac!

My son-in-law and two granddaughters are both gluten intolerant. Our July 4th plans are to have gluten free snacks and celebrate Independence Day! It is a challenge to find gluten free snacks so the Baked Nut Chips would be wonderful!

I’m so excited to try these new chips! Our 4th of July plans are similar to most holidays – food, fun and family – and I love providing a gluten free feast to a bunch of gluten eaters who never know the difference!

We will be getting together with my family hanging out and watching the 4th of July parade. Having a gluten free option for my kids, husband and self to eat since we can’t eat other snacks would be awesome!

If Blue Diamond Nut Chips taste anything like Blue Diamond Nut Thins Crackers, the party will be in the bag!! My experience with Blue Diamond is that the taste & crunch is so unique that it keeps non-gluten & gluten eaters alike, coming back for more! Three bags of these babies & a dish full of homemade chili-tomato salsa and we’ll be ready to rock the BBQ lawnchairs for the evening & watch the fireworks from our backyard here in good ole’ Western Maryland.

We’ll be in Hilton Head but these would be great because my 5 year old celiac always feels left out – he has fructose malabsorption as well as celiac and doesn’t tolerate corn. The sea salt ones are perfect!

    Thanks for sharing.

Our family is going to be having a bbq and birthday party with friends. Snacks are a must -especially when there’s lots of gluten intolerant and celiac attendees!

Finally going home from being away at grad school – a 7 hour trek- for the first time since Christmas. And really, I would just LOVE to have some of these chips available to teach my gluten-eating friends there that ‘gluten-free’ does not equal ‘gross’ : ] (Specific plan is to put them in a bowl at the annual BBQ, no one will ever know the difference!😉 …PS are these chips already out in stores? I’ve heard about them, but haven’t seen them yet! Can’t wait to find them, though!

It’s my nephew’s birthday, that’s right he’s also a real live nephew of his Uncle Sam, born on the fourth of July. So our plans always include a party and fireworks. I can’t eat his red white and blue cake, but I’d be happier with some chips anyway!
